The Three Geographical Divisions of the Philippines
The Philippines is consists of thousands of islands. It is divided into three geographical divisions, namely Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Measuring 94,630 square kilometres, Mindanao is considered the second biggest island here. It is bigger compared to some 125 countries all over the globe, including Portugal, Taiwan, Ireland and Hungary. What is more, it ranks eighth in the world’s most populated islands. It features high and rugged mountains, with almost volcanic peaks. It also has rolling plateaus and swampy plains, which are planted with rice.
The second geographical division is Visayas. It is comprised of many islands such as Negros, Cebu, Leyte and Bohol. Administratively, it is subdivided into three regions. These are Eastern, Central and Western Visayas. It features plains, coastal areas and rugged mountains.
The third division is Luzon, which measures 104,688 square kilometres. It ranks seventeenth among other large islands worldwide. Plus, it is considered the fourth most populous island all over the globe. Like the other divisions, it has lots of mountains and wide plains.
